An English-speaking eye doctor in Vienna, in the 23rd district. We treat patients with Austrian public health insurance (e-card) and private patients, including people with international or expat insurance.
Dr. Gebtraud Schild-Burggasser is a specialist in ophthalmology and optometry and also a general practitioner. The practice is on the ground floor, step-free, seven minutes on foot from U6 Siebenhirten.

Urgent eye problems
Sudden loss of vision, new flashes of light, a sudden shower of black dots, a shadow or curtain moving into your field of vision, or severe eye pain: go to an eye emergency department immediately, or call the ambulance on 144 outside our opening hours. Please do not wait for an appointment and do not wait for an email reply. Addresses are on our contact page.
What we do
- Routine eye examinations and preventive checks, including OCT scans, visual field testing and eye pressure measurement
- Cataract and glaucoma: diagnosis, monitoring and treatment planning
- Contact lens fitting, including specialist lenses for dry eyes and keratoconus
- Children’s eye care, orthoptics and the Austrian Eltern-Kind-Pass examinations
- Medical certificates for driving licences and certain professions

The phone is only answered at the beginning and end of each session, because during consultations we are with patients. Email is the more reliable way to reach us.
